Freya, the goddess of love, is said to have lived in an elder tree, and who can blame her? Having all those delicious elderflowers within easy reach, she has most definitely used a fair few of them for various beverages, quite possibly including a delicious Elderflower Sour like ours.
We started with a base of smooth whisky and mixed it with sweet vermouth and fancy elderflower cordial for some richness, then cut it with a but of bitter Maraschino cherry liqueur and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Not too sweet, not too sour, just perfectly balanced with a delicious floral elderflower backbone.
Treat it like a sour and shake it with an egg white for maximum godly indulgence.
Scottish highland whisky, sweet vermouth, fancy elderflower cordial, Maraschino cherry liqueur, and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
How to serve
Stick it in the freezer for half an hour, shake over ice, and pour into your fanciest glass. Garnish with elderflowers if you can find some.
Make it fancy
To get the full experience, you really want to treat this one as a sour and shake it with an egg white. Add a small egg white to a cold bottle and shake vigorously for 30 seconds (it's a long time but it's worth it). Then add ice and shake vigorously until your container feels cold. Pour into a fancy glass and garnish with elderflowers.
